WFHA League
What is the League?
Every season (Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall) there is WFHA league. Each season begins with all players signing up as individuals, and then they are placed into four balanced teams. The league consists of an 8 week season, and each week teams will compete in one full length game (17 min quarters, running clock.) There is a double round robin during the regular season, and then a two week playoff. All games are played by FIH rules and have two umpires.
If you are unable to commit to a full season, you can sign up as a "sub". Each week WFHA emails the sub list with the number of spots available, and subs my sign up to play if they can, and will be assigned to teams on a week-by-week basis.
The league is for competitive play and is meant for highly skilled and experienced players. Typical league players played on a varsity college team or played with clubs internationally. If you are new to the game, or you have not played in some time, we highly encourage you beginning with the WFHA pick up option.
Where is the League?
The location of the league can vary from season to season, but we do our best to first get on water based Astroturf when possible (American University, or the University of Maryland). If a water based turf in not possible, we will find locations that are close to metro stations or public transit and located within the city limits. In the past we have played at the Catholic University of America, the Academy of the Holy Cross (MD), National Cathedral School, and American University. The winter season is indoors hockey and played with indoor rules.
