Location

The location of the league can vary from season to season. We typically play at the Catholic University of America, but we do our best to find opportunities to play on a water based Astroturf.

We try to play at locations close to metro stations or public transit and located within the city limits. We also encourage carpools, and help facilitate a sign up sheet for each season.

Upon registering for a full season or sub spot, the league executive will send out detailed information on the location, where to park, and how to get to the field.

League Rules

All games are played using FIH rules and have two umpires.

In addition to FIH rules, WFHA uses club rules & guidelines to regulate games and maintain a positive environment.

League Rules

About the League

League is offered during the Winter, Spring, and Fall months. The winter season is our only indoor field hockey season. We have two executive board members who are responsible for league operations.

The league is a competitive, but friendly environment. It is designed for highly skilled and experienced players. League players typically have played on a varsity college team or played with clubs internationally.

The league consists of a 7 or 8 week season, and each week, four teams compete in one full length game. There is a double round robin during the regular season, and then a two week playoff or a finals games if there is a 7 week season. After the last game of the season, WFHA hosts a social at a venue close to the field.

If you are new to the game, or you have not played in some time, we highly encourage you start with the WFHA pickup option.

Spring League

When: Sundays. March 17 through May 12
Time: 9:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.

How to Register

Each season begins with players signing up as individuals. Once registration ends, players are split into four balanced teams.

Sign up for our emails to be notified when player registration opens. To play with us, we require an active USAFH or WFHA membership.

If you are unable to commit to playing a full season but want to play when you are available, you can sign for the sub list. Each week, WFHA emails the sub list with the number of spots available for the upcoming league game. It is on a first come first serve basis. Registered subs are then assigned to a team and provided information on the location and game time.
